Top 3 Pros and Cons of the Pokémon Bank

My top 3 pros and cons of the Pokémon Bank, which will be available in North America, Australia and Europe on December 27, 2013, and in Japan and Korea on December 25, 2013.

As I’m sure many of you are aware, Pokémon Bank is an application that will be available in the Nintendo eShop. It will allow users to move their Pokémon from previous generations to the current Generation VI Pokémon X and Y games.

Until the end of January, users will get a free 30-day trial period to use the application. After the trial period though, you will have to pay an annual fee of $4.99 in order to store your Pokémon in the cloud. You will also get a free Celebi if you access Pokémon Bank by September 30, 2014.

I found many pros and cons about this application; however, I will only list three of each. Whether you download it or not though, is up to you.

Pros

  1. You can store up to 3000 Pokémon in the cloud that is the bank.
  2. You could transfer all of the legendary Pokémon from previous generations, which would be advantageous in battle (including the elusive Celebi).
  3. Those specially EV trained Pokémon of yours can once again be a part of your party.

Cons

  1. If you’re a tight wad like I am, you wouldn’t want to pay the yearly price, albeit $5.
  2. The short trial doesn’t seem like enough time to transfer all of your favorites.
  3. It’s all stored in the cloud, and you have the slight chance of loosing all of your stored Pokémon.

Like I said, the choice to use the service is entirely up to you. Personally for this writer, I do not support it, but don’t let my opinions choose for you. What do you fellow trainers think? Are you for or against the Pokémon Bank?

I started off with Pokémon at a very young age. I've been with it since the TV show, moved to the card game, and now the video game. Add my FC! I am glad to trade or battle anyone, just tell me beforehand. Happy hunting trainers!

  1. I am looking forward to the Pokemon Bank application. For the service provided, I would have expected to pay at least $5 per month. So, $5 per year is a great deal. That is less than $0.50 per month. I also like the feature to transfer whole boxes of pokemon at a time. So much better than just a few per day. I am not concerned about data lost on the cloud, but I do wish that the bank allowed pokemon to be holding items during transfer. I am definitely going to get this, once it becomes available.

  2. i am liking the idea of the pokemon bank. But i think that 30 days is enough time to transfer your pokemon. But i agree that i am scared that my prized pokemon might be stolen so i might have two accounts.

  3. I am most likely going to pay for the yearly subscription and forget about it, once I transfer over some of my older gen pokemons but 5 dollars a year is an outstanding deal to reconnect with some old buddies. I really hope they add more content somehow, for those who beat the game and are just biking around with our eggs.

My main concerned with pokebank is people who hack pokemons such as IV6 dittos and then proceed to breed with it, apparently the cheat detector will not be able to detect pokemons who are bred from hacked parents.

  4. I probably won’t use the bank very much at all. I’ll get the Celebi in the free-trial period, and maybe transfer the gen V starters, and that’s about it. I don’t really have specific favorites from past generations that I can’t get in Y, and I kinda sold all my older games except black, so… no real use for me.
