Pokémon Sun and Moon 3DS themes

A Sinister Organization — Team Skull and Shiny Tapu Koko are two new Pokémon Sun and Moon themes for the Nintendo 3DS. Both themes are $1.99 and will change the background music for your 3DS. The Team Skull theme will change the music to Battle! (Team Skull Boss) and the Tapu Koko theme will change the music to Battle! (Tapu). These themes are available on the Nintedo 3DS Theme Shop

Pokemon GO 7-day streak for Evolution items

Trainers are now guaranteed to find a random Evolution item in PokéStops when you obtain a “First PokéStop of the Day” 7-day streak bonus. At least four times per month, you can obtain a Sun Stone, King’s Rock, Dragon Scale, Up-Grade, or Metal Coat to evolve your Pokémon.

Thankfully, you don’t need to trade your Pokémon to evolve them in Pokémon GO. All you need to do have is enough candies and the appropriate Evolution item and evolve them like normal.

PETA cries over Nintendo Switch’s Milk

Nintendo Switch’s 1-2-Switch has come under fire by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Specifically the game Milk, which is an extremely removed and basic simulation of “milking” a cow. The “milking” motion is to showcase the capabilities of the Switch’s new Joy-Con controllers, just like Wii Sports did for the Wii.

Head of the PETA, Ingred E. Newkirk, recently wrote a letter to Nintendo stating, “Our staffers and activists have recently played the cow-milking minigame for Nintendo Switch and realized you’ve taken all the cruelty out of milking.

WHAT!? Is PETA upset that the game isn’t cruel enough?

PETA has no case to attack Nintendo for a simulation minigame. I use the word “simulation” here liberally because clearly this game is nothing like milking a real cow. PETA really needs to lay off the crazy pills. Sure, I’ll 100% admit that the conditions for cows in many dairy farms are abysmal, but attacking a video game company is not the way to solve the issues on dairy farms.

Low blow, PETA. Now, go throw red paint on some rich lady’s fur coat. I’ll take my Switch and happily play while wearing my beaver fur-lined leather jacket. It’s so comfy and warm!

(By the way, I finally bought a Switch after recording this episode. We’ll talk about that next week.)

GameStop shutting down 150 stores

Q1 2017 didn’t look so great for GameStop. They lost over 10% of their profit marginOver the past financial quarter, GameStop’s profit and stock has decreased by over 10%. Clearly, GameStop is doing something wrong. Due to these losses, they will be closing 150 stores over the next year.

Veteran listeners of Pokedex Radio will know my distain for this horrible video game store. Their buy-back prices are incredibly unfair and low, while their used game prices are outrageous and laughable. On top of that, they are consistently one of the worst companies to work for in the United States.

Of course, the loss in business is not only due, in part, to their unfair business practices, but also the change in market share. GameStop will eventually go the way of Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. It may not happen as quickly as the movie side of things, but with access to services like GameFly and online shopping such as Amazon, there’s no longer a reason to visit this terrible video game store.

Question of the Episode

Do you think PETA was justified in writing a letter to Nintendo about the Switch game Milk?
